Readers of the Bass Buzz know about good fishing tackle, and they know that's just what companies like Berkley, Stren, Fenwick and Abu Garcia deliver. But the four were recently recognized with a series of awards from Field & Stream magazine.
Each year, Field & Stream names its "Best of the Best" in several gear and equipment categories. The awards aren't arbitrary. In fact, they're recognized industry-wide for their prestige.
"Thousands of new outdoor products are introduced each year," said Field & Stream deputy editor Jay Cassell. "The Best of the Best list is a great way to maneuver through the mountain of gear available and ensure you come out on top with products that'll perform." What follows are highlights from Field & Stream's recent Best of the Best awards announcement.
Berkley: Best Accessory and Lure
Field and Stream selected the Berkley TEC Pistol Trigger Grip as 2008's best accessory, and Gulp! Alive! as the best lure.
The TEC Pistol Trigger Grip fish-handling tool is available in a convenient, first-of-its-kind, 8-inch pistol-style model.
Gulp! Alive comes in easy-to-handle and stackable buckets, which allows baits to be suspended – preserving their powerful scent and shape. Gulp! juice recharges the biodegradable baits and keep them pliable for use at a later time.
Gulp! Alive! debuted last summer and was a major factor at events like the Erie Bassmaster Elite Series and Detroit River FLW Tour.
Fenwick: Best Rods
Field & Stream selected Fenwick Elite Tech rods as the best rods for 2008.
Elite Tech rods introduced a new way to build a rod series when they married individual rod components to individual fishing techniques to create the best rod action.
Elite Tech rods are available for techniques ranging from pitching, flipping, cranking and dropshotting to frogging, swimbaiting, and more.

Abu Garcia: Best Reel
Field & Stream selected the Abu Garcia Revo as the best reel for 2008.
The Revo Premier, at 6.3 ounces, is the lightest aluminum low-profile reel on the market. So durable and comfortable, it's been the reel of choice for professional anglers since its introduction last year. Premiums include five stainless-steel "high-performance corrosion resistant" (HPCR) bearings, Carbon Matrix drag system, linear magnetic brakes, and an Eversilk-coated pinion shaft and pawl. It features a 6.4:1 gear ratio.
Stren: Best Line
Field & Stream chose Stren Microfuse as its winner in the best line category.
Microfuse is a high-performance baitcast line that's also ideal for spinning tackle when delicate presentations are required. Thermally fused, Microfuse is nearly invisible underwater, but is UV-activated to actually fluoresce in cloudy or sunny daylight.
