New FireLine Braid is produced with a breakthrough radial technology that gives it a truly round shape.

There's arguably no other segment of the fishing gear and tackle industry that's advancing and changing as quickly as lines, especially when it comes to braided lines.

Dozens of new braided lines hit the market every year. Some are simply copycats trying to grab a little piece of the pie, but others offer fresh, never-before-seen features and truly represent the next leap in superllne technology.

Berkley FireLine is certainly no newcomer to the superline game. Pros and weekend warriors alike have been touting the virtues of FireLine for years. But this year the FireLine family welcomed two new members that you should know about: FireLine Braid and FireLine Tracer Braid.

New Grade of Braid

Right about now a few people are probably scratching their heads wondering, 'I thought FireLine already made braid. So how is this stuff new?'

The original FireLine is a superline, but it's not a braid. What's the difference? It's in the construction. A braided line is just that, it consists of multiple lines actually braided and fused together to form one solid piece.

And now, thanks to a breakthrough radial construction method, the folks at FireLine have developed a braid that is round, smooth and unbelievably strong. The extra-round qualities of FireLine Braid make it great for use on casting reels, because it won't dig into the spool like other lines.

And for you guys that like to go big, you'll be happy to know that FireLine braid is available in pound-test strengths from 15 all the way up to 80.

Tracer Braid

The other new addition to the FireLine family is Tracer Braid. Tracer Braid is designed with alternating hi- and low-vis colored sections. These alternating sections serve a few different purposes.

First, it allows anglers to watch their line more effectively to detect those ever-so-subtle 'tick-tick' strikes. Also, since each colored section is 2-1/2 feet long, the angler can roughly determine how much line he has out.

And finally, the lo-vis segments of the line serve as built-in leaders. Simply tie your bait directly to the dark colored section of line and you don't have to worry about finicky, line-shy fish avoiding your presentation.

Also, since FireLine Tracer Braid is a true round braid with innovative radial construction, anglers can spool their casting reels with larger diameter line for big-fish applications.

Notable

Here's the MSRP breakdown for both Fireline Braid and FireLine Tracer Braid:

> 110-yard spool: $17.95 (15-50 pound test), $19.95 (65-50 pound test)

> 300-yard spool: $37.95 (15-50 pound test), $41.95 (65-80 pound test)

> 1,100-yard bulk spool: $128.95 (15-50 pound test), $139.95 (65-80 pound test)
