Here's a shot of the Berkley Gulp! Alive! 4-inch minnow assortment bucket. Notice how the baits retain their color.

If you're a serious bass or saltwater angler and you still haven't tried Berkley Gulp!, then you must be living under a rock somewhere. Or maybe you're one of those guys who bought a pack of Gulp! a long time ago, tried it once, and then shoved it into that black hole in your tackle bag never to be seen again.
Either way, if you're looking to catch more fish, then it's about time you gave Gulp! a serious look. But if you're the average, tackle-crazed angler, you can't just buy one pack of one color and call it done. Most guys tend to go for a sampling of different shapes and colors when they jump into the process of testing out a new bait, and that's an easy way to drop a whole bunch of coin in a short amount of time.
But thanks to Berkley's new Gulp! Alive! fresh and saltwater assortment buckets, you don't have to thin out your wallet by buying 20 different packs of baits just to find your confidence color.
A Rainbow of Gulp!-y Goodness
We've all been there. You walk into your local tackle shop and swear to yourself you're not going to drop another 100 bucks this time. 'I'm just going to pick up a few things and get out of here.'
And then you hit the soft-plastics aisle. Game over, man.
You sit there for an hour carefully choosing an arsenal of colors that you think will produce at 'Lake X'. You toss a couple bags in the cart, and then a few more. Then you start swapping out colors you'd already picked for 'better' ones you find a little further down the aisle.
Before you know it you've been on the same aisle for 2 hours, your wife is calling wondering why you're not home from work yet, and you wince as you watch the clerk at the register swipe barcode after barcode.
The idea behind Berkley's Gulp! Alive! assortment buckets is simple: throw a bunch of different colors into a bucket full of Gulp! Alive! scent formula and let the angler decide which one he likes best. No questioning about whether green-pumpkin will out-produce watermelon-red. No 2-hour 'quick trips' to the tackle shop. And no more having to explain to the wife why there's another $150 charge on the credit card statement for a bunch of stuff you already had anyway.
Why hasn't somebody thought of this sooner?
For most bait companies, throwing a variety of colors into a single pack is simply impossible. The colors in oil-based plastic baits tend to bleed, meaning if you stick a chartreuse bait in the same bag as a june bug bait, you're going to end up with something that looks like a grape that's been exposed to too much radiation.
But because Berkley Gulp! is made from a biodegradable, water-based material, there's absolutely zero color swapping. You can mix black, white, chartreuse, pumpkinseed and every color in between into a single container, and each bait will retain its original color.
The Berkley Gulp! Alive! freshwater assortment buckets come in two different varieties labeled for bass and walleye. But, of course, all the baits can cross over for multi-species applications, and they can even be used with great results for saltwater game fish, too.
Here are the details on the different freshwater assortments available:
Bass Assortments
> 3-inch Minnow, colors: emerald shiner, pumpkinseed, smelt, watermelon pearl
> 4-inch Minnow, colors: emerald shiner, pumpkinseed, smelt, watermelon pearl
Walleye Assortments
> 5-inch Jumbo Leech, colors: black, pumpkinseed
> 3-inch Minnow, colors: black shad, smelt
In the saltwater assortment buckets, not only can you get different colors of your favorite Gulp! baits, but you can also buy a single tub that includes a variety of different Gulp! shapes. So if you've been putting off the Gulp! craze because you're not really sure which baits and colors to buy, here's a chance to make a single purchase and try a few of Berkley's top-producing baits. Then, once you decide on your favorites, you can stock up on that particular shape or color. It doesn't get any easier, or any cheaper, than that.
The shapes included in the saltwater assortment buckets are the 2- and 3-inch shrimp, 2-inch peeler crab and 2- and 6-inch sandworm. One assortment offers 3-inch shrimp in new penny, natural laminate, pearl white and molting. Another bucket includes the 2-inch shrimp in molting, natural, new penny and mango ripple.
A combination of 3-inch shrimp and 2-inch peeler crab is offered in new penny, natural laminate and amber glow. A bucket of 6-inch sandworms have the colors dark brown, natural, bloody and new penny while the 2-inch sandworms include camo, natural, new penny and motor oil fleck.
Notable
The MSRP for both the freshwater and saltwater assortments is $19.99 per pint bucket.
